Bone Marrow Donation

Bone Marrow Transplant is indicated for few conditions

  • Autologous bone marrow transplant: Donated from a person before chemotherapy or radiotherapy and received by him – the so called rescue transplant. Donor and Recipient are the same persons.
  • Allogeneic bone marrow transplant: Donated to some one whose genes have a close match – usually blood relatives. Donation needed only if one of your close relatives needs this.
  • Umbilical cord blood transplant: Picking up in India at present.

In short, unlike Blood Donation where your donation can be used for anyone and for a wide range of conditions, Bone Marrow Donation is not a simple affair . . .
